Wizz Air sets foot in Romania
07.02.2007
József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air won the price of the 'Brave Innovator' on the Ernst&Young award gala in Budapest yesterday. The price recognized the break through in the airline business in Hungary and the region, the revolutionary business model that changed the way people see flying in CEE today and the prudence and excellence of business conduct of Wizz Air.
In his speech József Váradi said: "Wizz Air was born at the right moment and the right place, however the success could not have been achieved without the hard work and great spirit of the team."
Wizz Air took off on 19 May 2004. Today, barely three years later, the airline is the largest CEE-based low cost carrier and a significant player in Europe with over 3 million passengers carried in 2006. Wizz Air has a fleet of 9 Airbus A320 aircraft going up to 13 by the end of the summer. The airline operates flights from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania from 5 bases in the CEE region and will be opening its sixth base in Bucharest shortly. In 2007 Wizz Air will carry 4.5 million passengers.
